Yesterday's auction of magicana from the collection of Jay Marshall was a rousing success!
The Potter & Potter gallery was jammed with bidders and spectators, making for a lively, energetic sale. Many lots outpaced pre-auction estimates, some by factors of three or four. A particularly dramatic bidding war occured between two collectors clamoring for a set of Cups and Balls owned by Louis "Pop" Krieger (which ultimately sold for $4000.00 plus buyer's premium).
Germain's hand-carved Mummy Trick sold for $5,000 (plus premium) - double the high pre-auction estimate. Other star lots included a stage pistol used by Eugene Laurant, Imro Fox and Frank Ducrot, Edwin Brush and Herman Homar's theatrical trunks, and original poster are rendered by Karl Germain's father.
A complete list of prices realized will be posted on this website later this week. Stay tuned for details.
