Collection of Herb Zarrow at Auction

Posted By:gfajuri on 7/23/2010

Herb Zarrow was a fixture on the New York magic scene from the late 1940s until the time of his death in 2008. Renowned as the inventor of the Zarrow Shuffle - one of the only sleights that migrated from the magic world to the gambling underworld - Zarrow was also a serious student of conjuring.

As such, his personal collection was comprised mostly of books on magic - but not just of the instructional variety. Volumes on the history of conjuring, as well as collectible periodicals and out-of-print and first edition copies of well-known titles will be offered in the auction.

Of particular interest will be one complete set of the famous Csuri Notes, treatises on sleight-of-hand culled from the letters of Faucett Ross. Privately circulated for decades, a complete set of the Csuri notes have never been offered for sale. Each volume features magic developed by masters of the art, among them Charlie Miller, Paul Fox, and Dai Vernon. The Zarrow collection includes one of the original six sets of the Csuri notes, originally from the collection of Conrad "Connie" Bush.

In addition to the Zarrow collection, the sale will feature material from the collections of Dai Vernon and a recently-uncovered cache of apparatus and ephemera from the estate of Paul Fox. Stay tuned for details!
